My oldest Daughters deer/ Story is added

Post by Texasdoc »

here is my oldest daughters deer she got in 05, She shot it with her custom 243 built by her uncle Rick in Ky. and it was a 249yds shot right at dusk and it drop in his tracks .she was 14 y.o at the time . the Antlers fell off this buck, as it was a late season hunt

here isthe story she wrote for TTHA :

My Hunt in Breckenridge

Well it started out Friday morning on our drive to Breckenridge, My dad and I
Got the suburban loaded and got my little sister on the bus. We drove for 4
Hours, then we got the Ken’s place and unloaded the suburban and went out
And test fired my rifle and it was right on the money. We got in to the blind
At about 4:00 p.m. and started seeing deer about 5:15 we had 3 8pts and 1 nice
12pt. With 2 does across the land fence and dad and me waited for about
30 minutes. They wouldn’t cross the fence and we where hoping they would
before it got dark. It was about 5:55 and the nice 8pt. Jumped the fence and
was on the tank dam. I got ready and it was getting real dark and it was a hurried
shoot but I got it in the spine at 250yds. It dropped and we waited for a
few minutes to make sure it was dead . Then dad and myself walked over
To it and we found it with only one antler and then Dad went to pick it up
the other one fell off. So in the Picture you see that I had to place a brick
Under his head to get the pictures made. So we cleaned it and Ken a.k.a.
Pecos took the tender loins in and we had a nice dinner.

The next morning was cold and we saw a few deer but nothing that would
Come over the fence, so we stayed out until about 9:00 am. So we went
And looked around at another ranch my Dad and I might be leasing next year
Its 1800 acres and has lots of deer and turkey on it. that afternoon we got back
In the stand about 4:00 pm and a 4:30 we saw a Bobcat and I took it, but we forgot
To get pictures of it as it was a bit torn up but I will have a nice hide as soon as
Ken gets it tanned and cleaned up. We saw lots of deer that evening but nothing
I wanted to shoot. Lots of small 8pts and 3 spikes that my dad said that are to young
To take.

I had a great time hunting on the Short ranch and would like to thank everyone that
Helped me to get this hunt.

As you can see in the picture I am very happy with the buck I got.

It’s an 8pt. With a 15 3/8 spread inside and scored 137 5/8

So I will be going to South Texas in Jan.06 for a big buck hunt so I will let
Y’all know how it goes and show you the pictures of my hunt.

Thank you for having a Place to tell my Hunting stories.

That's really cool, Doc. I hope my daughter want's to hunt when she get's older. My grandparents used to have a lake house on Hubbard Creek Lake. The area around Breckenridge is nice. Take care!
