Current Concealed Handgun Laws Pamphlet?

#1

Post by RiverKing »

I have a 71-page pamphlet titled "Texas Concealed Handgun Laws and selected statutes -- 2011-2012". At the bottom of the cover, it says "Issued by the Texas Department of Public Safety Austin, Texas" with a document number CHL-16 and a date of September 2011. IIRC, I downloaded this as a PDF, printed it and stapled it in booklet form. Besides being out of date (it says nothing about open carry), it is getting dog-eared and downright ratty.

Does anyone know if TX DPS has published a more recent version? Can anyone provide a link to a more recent version?

BTW, don't waste your time trying to get information like this from TX DPS. First, you can only email them on topics for which they have canned answers. Second, you might die of old age before you get even an initial response from their chat widget; it seems to accept input at a rate of about 1 character per second. Finally, the phone number posted on the web site gets you a typical menu but selecting an option on the menu only changes the recording you get to hear; the phone is never answered by a human being.

The 2017-2018 version was published in February 2018. So it might be a few months.

Can you still request from DPS and get the CHL-16 via snail mail. My computer does not handle PDF's very well.

It takes a couple months before the newest version will reflect any changes in the laws that become effective on 1 September, so if you order it now it will still be the 2017-2018 version. I'd suggest checking their website after the first of the year.

For the Cliff-Notes of new changes, you can use this link (it hasn't been updated yet, but typically will be updated much quicker than the handbook):

yes.
The 2017-2018 LTC-16 ones were $5.00 each.... cheaper than my ink to print them. I ordered 5last year, but probably should have ordered 7 since I gave few away as well as keep one in the car, one at home, on in my "go to hospital bag"
The 2019-2020 LTC16 should be the same
The form on which you may order them ( GS-5A.pdf )should be found here after the 2019-2020 ones are printed:
https://www.dps.texas.gov/RSD/LTC/forms/index.htm
Right now, as stated above, you can only get the 2017-2018 ones... perhaps February 2020 ...

A few I gave them to got their licenses later or will be soon.

This is the form to order the UPDATED 2020 License to Carry book, which now contains the NEW laws passed by the last Texas legislature.

NEW LTC 16 books are only $5.00 each so I usually buy 1 for the house, 1 for the car and 1 on which to highlight and scribble

https://www.dps.texas.gov/InternetForms/Forms/GS-5A.pdf

This link is it to read online, it costs more to print than to order several books

https://www.dps.texas.gov/InternetForms ... LTC-16.pdf

I get new books after legislature meets & changes all the laws every 2 years they print the next January...which is now.

FEDEX just left ... just got my new FIVE LTC16 books I ordered in January but was surprised.

The new ones are a 8.5"x11" spiral bound book instead of the little stapled pamphlet we used to get. I LIKE IT It's easier to scribble in and stay in the lines, and being larger, also easier to find when I forget where I put it.

I always get 5, (1)one for home, (2)one for car, (3)one for friends who won't keep up with changes unless I give them one, and (4)one for scribbling in a lot, and (5)one for the "Where'd I put that?" moments that occur more and more. (Notice I only listed 3 in above January post, I forgot I gave to friend and forgot that I forget... but I remember I get 5... I should get 6 though, so I can give one to another friend too who got his LTC now ... but, I forgot.)
